Generative Art Project, Austin’s newest art gallery, presents its first show DNA Data Portraits: James Pricer. Generative art is an emerging global movement that features collaborations between humans and autonomous, non-human systems that can independently determine features of an artwork that would otherwise be made by the artist.
For this show, Pricer has used his sitters actual DNA data to assist him in creating their abstracted video portraits. Works on display include a double portrait of a mother and daughter, a husband and wife, an obsessive self-tracker, a group portrait of non-profit volunteers, and several self-portraits of the artist.
Generative Art Project is currently the only gallery entirely committed to generative artist, making Austin ground zero for this relevant new movement that considers what it means to be human in the post-singularity era. The gallery is also breaking new ground by offering affordable thumb drives (ArtSticks) that feature up to an hour of curated videos - thereby turning your smart TV into an art installation. Additionally, we offer unique, signed prints pulled from the videos, and commissioned portraits.
Hours; Friday 5-9, Saturday 2-9, Sunday 1-4, and by appointment
