Sleazy in that 90s nudity-free erotic thriller way, POISON IVY is a better movie than you might remember it to be. Pairing Sara Gilbert as Sylvie, who as Darlene on the TV series Roseanne gave a face to that generation’s teen angst, with Drew Barrymore as Ivy, budding out of child stardom into a sultry vixen who would play Amy Fisher in one of three TV true crime movies, POISON IVY starts as the story of two misfits becoming friends. That is, until dad Tom Skerritt’s rubbery lips and pervert eyeballs get in the way! The oft-pitted brunette vs. blonde set up takes on lesbian undertones, and then once poisonous Ivy makes her way into the home, things start to get nasty! With the allure of Ivy, ultimately we are our brunette heroine, too weird for high school, taken in by the bad girl.
