April 19, 2018, 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm at Whip In, 1950 South Interstate Highway 35, Austin, TX 78704, United States
This special happy hour performance is a SNEAK PEEK of a new residency coming soon to the Whip In Stage near you.
Denny Freeman and George Rains. Perhaps no other Austin musicians can equal the recording, performance, and touring credentials of these two men. As guitarist, pianist/organist and songwriter, Denny has performed, recorded, and/or toured extensively with the Vaughan Brothers, Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, James Cotton, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, and other international notables. He is a musician's musician extraordinaire.
George Rains is likely Austin's most recorded drummer. Period. Besides many of the shared credits with Denny and the Vaughan Brothers, Rains has played drums for everyone from Willie Nelson to Jimmy Vaughan to Boz Scaggs to BB King to Doug Sahm to Yusef Lateef, Toni Price and Hank Thompson. Swing and groove lives here!
And, we could go on and on without ever even mentioning that Denny and George were at the core of the famed Antone's House Band for years.
For these outings, Denny and George are joined by a bright rising vocal star, Miss Billie B. Billie's range is sublime as she crosses the lines between soul, jazz, R&B and deep blues. School-trained, but church-raised, Billie sings--from her heart--from Etta to Billie Holiday to Nina to Aretha and back. Keep your eyes, and ears, on Billie B.
Dimestore bass player, Austin mainstay, Harold McMillan rounds out the crew on bass. Special guests will appear.
Join us early for 2 sets of blues, jazz standards, and some musical surprises as Denny Freeman (guitar), George Rains (drums), and Harold McMillan (bass) improvise on familiar and not-so-familiar classic tunes from the jazz, blues, and soul cannon. Billie B.'s vocals will soar above. Come check it out.
