By Benoît Jacquot, 2009, France – 91 min – Drama
With Isabelle Huppert, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Xavier Beauvois, Maya Sansa, Clara Bindi
Middle-aged pianist Ann Hidden (Isabelle Huppert) finds her partner Thomas (Xavier Beauvois) in the midst of an affair with a younger woman. Spurred by this discovery—and by a chance encounter with her childhood friend Georges (Jean-Hugues Anglade)—Ann decides to liquidate nearly all aspects of her life to date. She quits her job, sells her apartment, and embarks on a trek across Europe, shedding her old identity and adopting new ones. But is she coming any closer to the "real" Ann? Veteran director Benoît Jacquot (A SINGLE GIRL, THREE HEARTS) lends an air of suspense to this haunting psychological drama led by one of world cinema's greatest actresses.
