Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited (GRTU) will host Troutfest 2017, featuring a banquet with silent and live auctions and a free exposition with presentations, seminars and exhibitors. This conservation event will help raise money for GRTU's variety of youth programs, including Youth Trout Camp, which is the only one of its kind in Texas and a phenomenal outdoor experience for youths 12-17 years old. Additionally, proceeds from Troutfest further GRTU's support of Project Healing Waters, Casting for Recovery and Reel Recovery. GRTU has greatly expanded the Troutfest youth activities this year in an effort to bring a new generation into its conservation efforts and the sport of fly fishing. In conjunction with Texas Parks and Wildlife, Troutfest will offer kids fly casting instruction, a fishing pond, as well as archery and air gun instruction. Kids who attend Troufest will gain and grow their appreciation of the outdoors. With a growing interest by women in the sport of fly fishing, this year's Troutfest will offer women only and kids' only casting instruction conducted by "The South's First Lady of Fly Fishing," Wanda Taylor. Taylor is the first woman in the world certified by the International Federation of Fly Fishers as a Master Certified Casting Instructor and was recently the first woman inducted into the Southern Appalachian Fly Fishing Museum Hall of Fame.
