Austin State Hospital-Shoal Creek Volksmarch
Join the Colorado River Walkers to walk the historic grounds of the Austin State Hospital and the surrounding Central Austin neighborhood, including a portion of the trail along Shoal Creek, featuring Seiders Springs, once a gushing bathing and picnic spot but now a trickle. The main building of Austin State Hospital was started in 1857 and is now the third oldest public building in Texas. Both the 5k and 10k routes include the state hospital grounds, the Central Park gravel trail around lakes, the Heart Hospital of Austin, and the Central Market retail center. The 10k route continues through the neighborhood to Shoal Creek, Seiders Springs and Bailey Park. Finish this noncompetitive walk by 2 PM. This event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA), America's Walking Club, and is eligible for the IVV Achievement Program conducted by the International Federation of Popular Sports, known by its German abbreviation IVV. Books for the achievement program and New Walker Packets will be available for sale.
