AUSTIN — Red River Arts is proud to present Art of the Spirit, a 30-year retrospective of artist Michael Washer. Working in a variety of media, including: etching, photogravure, graphite on paper, crayon batik, and a special technique he developed called oil constructions, where paper is built up into three dimensions and painted in oil. Washer’s artworks are layered with symbolism and biblical meaning and are rooted in traditional Jewish themes and events from his life.
A reception will be on January 14th at 4pm, with a Q&A to follow. Washer will also be giving a talk at 11:15 a.m. called “God the Artist."
Art of the Spirit will run Dec. 29 through Feb. 18. Gallery Hours: Every Friday 6-9pm and Saturday 1-4pm. Sunday afternoon viewing hours available by request: redriverarts@gmail.com.
Red River Arts is a creative collective whose members seek to enhance the lives of their church body and neighboring communities through all forms of art. They aim to encourage friendly conversations to break down religious and cultural barriers, and open their building to serve as a living room for hosting and nurturing relationships.
