Indie Meme will host their 2nd annual Film Festival, IMFF@AUSTIN April 20-23, 2017, at the Regal Arbor Great Hills Cinema in Austin. Awarded the “Best International Passport” by the Austin Chronicle, the Indie Meme Film Festival is an annual gathering for South Asian cinema enthusiasts and filmmakers. The 4-day film festival, in its 2nd year, will include premiers, red carpet events, filmmaker Q & A’s, member mixers, audience discussions, networking and parties. This year the festival will screen 9 features and 5 short films from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Iran, Afghanistan & Myanmar. Once again care has been taken by the Programming team to curate films which are compelling stories told in different languages, each giving our audience a unique glimpse into the realities they represent. Of particular interest is “Lipstick Under My Burka,” a film that has sparked controversy and has been banned in India in part because “the story is lady oriented,” according to India’s Central Board of Film Certification. Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone interested.
